OKAY. I am not the only person doing Welcome to Night Vale transcripts any longer-- in fact, I think all of the episodes have now been transcribed at least once! It's great. BUT, I admit, I enjoy transcribing, and a lot of people have contacted me in the past couple of weeks saying that they like my transcripts and asking whether I will make any more of them. It's very flattering, and the answer is yes, I think I will. Stay tuned!

Again, I am totally, totally not trying to step on any toes by making the transcripts. They are not my writing, I am not earning any money from them, and I'm not affiliated with the people who make the podcasts in any way. They're just meant to help people who have auditory processing problems, are hard of hearing, are non-native English speakers, etc.

.The following is a complete-to-the-best-of-my-ability transcript of the first episode of the wonderful Welcome to Night Vale podcast, which you should really be listening to if you aren't already. It's written by Joseph Fink and Jeffery Cranor, and narrated (mostly) by Cecil Baldwin, who plays a fictional character of the same name. I'm not making any money with this transcription, and I don't mean any copyright infringement or disrespect by it-- I can take it down if that's an issue. Since I have a lot of friends with auditory processing disorders who have difficulty following podcasts and radio dramas without visual cues, I thought a transcript would help them focus and understand what was going on while they were listening. I tried to convey some of Cecil's manner of speech and tone with italics, underlines, breaks, and so forth, but I think if you can, you should really listen to the voice acting to get the full effect. It's great. He makes a really weird, soothing narrator.

               Okay.

The whole thing is behind the cut that is going to come after this sentence I am typing right now:

This is a nice house and this is a good dog and I feel safe. I walked miles and miles today and I got lost. Kind of. I knew where I was, but nobody else did, and I wasn't necessarily sure how to get back to the place I was supposed to be. I like that sensation. Nobody would find me unless I wanted them to. I don't like to be chased or stalked or hunted or courted or discovered.

There are supposed to be bears in the neighborhood this week, but I'm not so terribly worried.

I thought a lot about a lot of things on my walk, and I was going to write some of them down, but now I'm kinda tired. I guess I haven't slept for some hours or possibly days. And I walked a long time. Everything was green and gray; I like warm, humid, overcast weather. I like air that settles on your skin like a slightly damp ghost trying to slow dance with the living. I met six or seven dogs and they told me I was walking on their turf, and I saw an alarming number of warning signs affixed to the gates of foresty houses with half-mile driveways that said pretty much the same thing. I can sometimes charm dogs but I've never yet charmed an angry human being with a gun, except maybe just enough for them to arrest me gently instead of using force.

I'm going to get some clothes and bathroom things and food from my parents' house later and mess around on our wireless. Then head back here. Maybe I'll remember what I wanted to say. Maybe it'll rain tonight.

I find it very satisfying to cut open the blisters on my feet when they're "loose"-- white, dead, thickly flabby bags of clear fluid that reminds me of tears. I like to let it out and give the raw, pink, new sole underneath a chance to breathe. I enjoy this the way I think some people enjoy, like, showering, or grooming their hair.

This is the kind of post you can expect from me.

Hell, I may just use this journal to tell people things they don't want to know about bodies and the things they do under pressure.
